General Preparation Guidelines

Some radiology examinations require preparations that you must follow before your exam appointment. Preparations for imaging examinations will vary depending on the type of examination you are having. The purpose of the preparation is to increase the likelihood of a thorough examination. If the prep is too extreme for you or you have any questions please call the office and a modified preparation or more information can be given.

Diabetic, Elderly, or Debilitated Patients should call for a modified preparation.

If you are taking Glucophage and are having a CT or Intravenous Pyelogram please notify the office at the time of your appointment. This medication will interact with the intravenous iodine injection.

If you are pregnant, if there is a possibility that you are pregnant, or you are nursing and are having any exam, except an ultrasound, please notify the scheduler, the front desk and the technologist. If prior films are available about the exam being performed, please bring them with you for comparison. Please inform us of any medications you are taking. It would be a good idea to bring a list of your current medications. Some medications can interfere with the exam. If your particular mediation should not be taken on the day of your exam, we will let you know.

If you have a history of an allergy to iodinated contrast, asthma, or a strong allergic history, please notify the office when scheduling your exam. Pre-medication may be necessary depending on the clinical history and the type of exam you are having. If indicated your referring doctor can prescribe pre-medication. When arriving at the office for your appointment, please notify the front desk and the technologist examining if you have an allergic history or if you have been pre-medicated for the exam.
